I don't have a truck small enough to teach Light Rigid (LR) in, but that doesn't mean I can't help you!
Why not make the jump straight to HR instead?
Because let's face it, it's not as big or scary a step as you might think! You'll learn many of the same essential driving skills, but walk away with a higher licence class and more opportunities.
And if you've got a suitable company truck, I can help you with LR training too!

DON'T HAVE A TRUCK? Well, here's an idea...
If you're looking at getting your LR licence for ambulance or paramedic work, a minibus, community transport, or a small field service truck, have you considered making the jump straight to Heavy Rigid (HR) instead?
If you're eligible, you could walk away with a higher licence class that opens up even more opportunities!
Two options, depending on what you need:

WHAT IS A LIGHT RIGID LICENCE?
An LR licence covers certain trucks and buses up to 8 tonnes GVM.
Including vehicles that fall outside the limits of a standard car licence.
You might need one for:

Ambulance or patient transport vehicles, Certain paramedic or emergency service roles

Community transport and minibuses, Small delivery trucks

Field service and maintenance vehicles, & Council and support service vehicles
Important: Not every ambulance, minibus or service vehicle requires an LR licence. It depends on the actual vehicle, its specifications and the employer's requirements. Passenger transport work may also require additional authorisations.
WHY STOP AT LR WHEN YOU COULD GO HR?
Here's something worth thinking about.
An HR licence includes the lower rigid vehicle classes, and is the same training & assessment conditions and rules!
That means you could get the licence you need for your current role while giving yourself more flexibility for different vehicles and employment opportunities later.
You don't have to plan your entire trucking career today. But if you're already investing in training, it's worth considering whether HR makes more sense for your future.
AM I ELIGIBLE TO GO STRAIGHT TO HR?
In Queensland, the general minimum licence-holding requirements are:
For LR:

Hold a class C licence for at least 1 year.
For HR:
-
Hold a class C licence for at least 2 years; OR
-
Hold an LR or MR licence for at least 1 year.
Learner licence time does not count towards these periods. Other eligibility requirements and licence conditions apply.
Always confirm your eligibility with Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR) before booking.
If you're not eligible for HR yet, or your employer specifically wants LR training, get in touch and we'll discuss your options.
